I was exposed to entrepreneurship this summer when I interned for a startup company called Event Options. The company’s president noticed a problem. The events industry is an inefficient industry. When sourcing for the best products and services for a particular event, it often takes suppliers days to provide event planners with specs on the items they own. Jim Etkins, the president of Event Options, noticed a hole in the market. No national event platform exists where event planners can simultaneously source multiple local suppliers for the best products and services for their events. To fill this hole in the market, Jim launched Event Options in 2017. This platform is comparable to an Expedia for events. During the summer, I worked with Jim to help him upload the specs of various suppliers in Orlando as well as manage the layout of the website. I admire Jim’s work ethic and his courage to quit his job and start a business that would help eliminate the current inefficiencies of the events ecosystem.
After my experience this summer with Event Options, I grew fascinated with entrepreneurship. Particularly starting businesses that create solutions to everyday problems making the world a better place.

Jim’s idea of creating Event Options sounds like a great one that will pay of in the long run. Having an opportunity to intern at a startup company that has a bright idea was definitely a great choice for your career and I’m sure you gained valuable experience. You have the potential to make a difference in the world, all you must do is put your mind to work!
ReplyDeleteHey Ana,
ReplyDeleteThat is so cool you had some hands-on experience with entrepreneurship. Jim made a good decision by looking at what was lacking in the Events industry market. Event Options sound like a great company that will have much success in the future. Your experience from Event Options can help you even start your own business creating solutions to problems like you mentioned. If you keep working towards it and find the right industry, you’ll be on the right path to having a successful business like Jim.
