“The Art of Social Media” by Guy Kawasaki
1)
What was the general theme or argument of the book?
“The Art of Social Media” is a compilation of over 100 practical
tips on how businesses should manage their social media. It was written by Guy
Kawasaki, Apple’s chief evangelist for the Macintosh computer. The book gives
advice on how businesses can create a modern day clean cut and professional
social media presence to engage their audience.
2)
How did the book, in your opinion, connect with and
enhance what you are learning in ENT 3003?
As an entrepreneur, the world needs to know you exist. One of the
best ways to increase awareness about your new product or service is to market yourself
through social media. Social media also helps entrepreneurs get quick feedback
on their products and services and monitor product sentiment and competitors.
3)
If you had to design an exercise for this class,
based on the book you read, what would that exercise involve?
I would have the class make social media posts for their
entrepreneurial venture. Part of the assignment would be to research and select
a top social media channel that your audience is on then to create a social
media account on that network. The last part of the assignment would be to
write a reflection on this experience.
4) What was your biggest surprise or 'aha' moment when reading
the book? In other words, what did you learn that differed most from your
expectations?
I learned that that majority of content you post doesn’t have to
be original content. Posting quality original content takes a lot of time and can
only provide approximately two posts per week. Instead, content curation should
be used to fill in the gaps and meet post quotas. Content curation involves
sharing content that has already been created and adding an opinion or etc. to
the content.
Hey Ana! Keep up the great work! I agree that making original content is very time consuming. I think that even very dedicated instagram users who are ig models often use stuff they find online. It is hard to generate that many ideas so planning ahead for holidays or special post occasions can be helpful. You should also read "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" by Guy Kawasaki!
